Usability Testing

Usability testing (or user experience) sessions enable first-hand observation of actual interaction with a clients website, online application, and interactive media or other consumer product/service. Scorpio Research conducts interviews with users as they navigate the web-based materials. During usability sessions, we observe users interaction with the tested material to assess overall ease of use, architecture and navigational flow, content, look and feel, brand image, brand fit, and positioning. Findings provide insight into current usage patterns, unmet wants and needs, satisfaction levels, and most importantly, opportunities for improving the online product/service and overall user experience.

Scorpio Research leverages state-of-the-art technology for conducting usability testing sessions. We use a portable website testing lab that allows clients to see a split-screen image of the users facial expression and dialogue as well as of the computer screen or other object upon which the respondent is using. This split screen image is recorded on video which facilitates in-depth analysis and sharing research results with developers and other key staff.

Most often and for maximum benefit, we conduct usability sessions in-person in the form of IDIs. Each interview generally entails the users going through the site or application, employing task-based navigation, free navigation, or a combination of both. The moderator probes the user to identify issues and patterns throughout the course of the session. Like all of our research tools, we can customize the usability testing to client specifications, including telephone or online sessions.
